The HAGC
unit is not and should not be considered in the same respect as
other mill cylinders. It must maintain the designed loads of the
mill and at the same time be able to rapidly and consistently adjust
roll gap in micro inches. Controlling the friction loop or hysteresis
of the HAGC components is extremely important, especially when making
minute adjustments on the mill stands. Thus, the machining, assembly,
and testing processes involved in the reconditioning of these cylinders
is a specialized process, to assure that the friction loop remains
constant throughout the stroke, and that the proper seal and guide
band clearances are maintained for adequate lubrication and minimal
leakage.
Because Morgan Construction Company manufactures and designs new
HAGC assemblies for the industry, it is necessary that we have the
appropriate machining and test equipment required to maintain the
strict quality required on new mills. Thus, with our two specialized
Test Stands, we are able to test nearly every cylinder throughout
its stroke and load range for hysteresis and oil leakage. All data
for testing operations is documented and sent to our customers for
their use. Any new or reconditioned cylinders that do not meet our
O.E.M. standard for leakage and friction tolerance on the post repair
testing, are disassembled for re-inspection, seal replacement, and
re-machining if necessary.
To conclude, with the specialized inspection, machining, test equipment,
and expertise in the manufacturing of HAGC cylinders, our customers
can be assured that the assemblies are operating to O.E.M. specifications
before they are installed in the mill. Thus, the Test Stands and
the data gathered during final testing, provide the necessary quality
control information that the manufacturing and assembly practices
are to specification. Without the Test Stand data and the ability
to test under the same loads as seen on the mill, you have no information
or assurance that the cylinder will operate as designed.
It is our recommendation that your personnel visit the Morgan facilities
in Worcester, Massachusetts to observe first hand our manufacturing
and testing facilities for the HAGC cylinders.
