Chock bores are critical
for good bearing performance.
Ovality within the chock bore, if excessive, will cause
babbitt breakout in the bushings. Excessive clearances
between the chock ears and latch plates will allow movement within
the bearing, causing bushing and sleeve flange interference to take
place. An excellent method of eliminating axial movement would be
to install a spreader bar arrangement which could easily be carried
out during the refurbishment of the chocks.
