China Steel Orders Upgrade from Morgan
WORCESTER, Mass., USA, May 10, 2004
Morgan Construction Company has received an
order from China Steel Corporation of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, for an
upgrade to its two-strand rod mill.
In announcing the contract, Mark Shore, Director
of Rolling Mill Sales and Proposals, said, "The upgrade will
include modification of the shears after stand #7, along with the
installation of a new electrical control system. "This modification
will convert the stand #7 shears from an air clutch, air brake to
an electric start/stop arrangement. A new electrical control system
will also be provided for both the shears after stand #7 and #15.
"This upgrade," Shore explained,
"is designed to improve the mill's yield by increasing the
accuracy and repeatability of the crop cut length, in addition to
improving the mill maintenance."
The mill, which was originally built and installed
by Morgan in 1977, was last modified by Morgan in 1997 with the
addition of two Reducing / Sizing mills. The mill produces over
720,000 tons of rod per year at finishing speeds of 5.5mm rod in
excess of 85 m/s meters per second.
Morgan Construction Company is a designer and
producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for
