Brazilian Rod Mill Orders Morgan Compactors
WORCESTER, Mass., USA, October 29,
2001
Belgo Mineira Steel Company, of Monlevade, Brazil,
has ordered two Horizontal Coil Compactors from Morgan Construction
Company.
Daniel M. Morgan, Senior Vice President and General
Manager of the Rolling Mill Division, in announcing the contract,
explained that the compactors are for use in Belgo's existing two-strand
rod mill in João Monlevade.
The compactors will be installed at the company's
#1 Rod Mill. Originally built and installed in the early 1960s,
the mill has since undergone several modifications, the latest of
which was completed in 1997. Currently the mill produces two-ton
coils at a rate in excess of 120 tons per hour. Production requirements
can be handled by one of the new compactors with the second unit
serving as standby or used for secondary production.
Morgan added that the order from Belgo was significant
in that these were the first Morgan compactors to be ordered by
its longtime customer. "The key to our successfully receiving
the order is that after the engineering work is completed at our
Worcester headquarters, the compactors will be manufactured, tested
and assembled to Morgan specifications in Brazil."
Initially designed by Morgan in 1999, the new compactor
offers the latest technology, including the company's new wire binding
system.
Morgan Construction Company, is a designer and
producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for
the metal industry worldwide.
