WORCESTER, Mass., January 15, 2001
Morgan Construction Company has received a contract
to modernize the Byelorussian Steel Works (BMZ) mill in Zhlobin,
Republic of Belarus.
According to John Foley, General Manager, Rolling
Mill Sales, "This is a multiphase contract that will include
new equipment designed to improve the metallurgical properties of
BMZ's finished product , while increasing the mill's production
capacity.
As part of the contract's first phase, Morgan will
install a new water cooling system, temperature control system,
modifications to the company's existing Stelmor® coil cooling
conveyor, and a new compactor and ring distributor. This first phase
of the upgrade is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2001.
Foley noted, "This first phase of the contract,
when completed, will enable BMZ to provide rod with increased tensile
strength and more consistent mechanical properties to the automotive
and construction industries. The addition of the ring distributor
and coil compactor will also allow BMZ to supply more dense coils
with significant wire drawing benefits."
He added that Voest Alpine Industrieanlagenbau
(VAI), of Linz, Austria is coordinating this phase, as well as a
second one that will start at the conclusion of the first phases.
In addition, VAI will provide plant fluid system modifications,
as well as automation interface and installation engineering for
the project."
