Morgan Receives Contract for China Rod Mill Revamp
WORCESTER, Mass., January 8, 2001

Jiuquan Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd., of Jiuquan, People's Republic of China, has signed a contract with Morgan Construction Company for a major upgrade to its existing rod mill.

In making the announcement, Colin Roy, vice president, Sales, Rolling Mill, said that the contact includes the following: Morgan's patented Reducing/Sizing Mill (RSM) with quick change off-line equipment; an eight-stand No-Twist® Mill (NTM); two (2) x 2 stand Vee prefinishing mills; water boxes before and after the NTM; pinch rolls; and a high-speed laying head. In addition, process temperatures will be controlled by a Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS).

When completed, the mill will be able to produce coils weighing 2000 kg with an annual capacity of 550,000 t/year. The mill is scheduled to start commercial operation in July 2002.
