GST Mill Achieves Monthly Production Record
WORCESTER, Mass., April 25, 2000
Morgan Construction Company has received word from
GST Steel Company in Kansas City, Mo., that its two-strand rod mill
this March achieved a record monthly production of 72,482 tons.
In a statement issued by Rick Howard, Mill Manager,
he noted, "This record output illustrates the continuous improvement
in mill performance since the conversion from a four-line configuration."
The former Armco mill was converted in 1995 from
four to two strands when it was upgraded by Morgan. The modernized
mill achieved finishing speeds of 100 meters per second during its
record production run.
John D. Foley, General Manager, Domestic Rolling
Mill Sales, said that the original four-strand mill was built by
Morgan in 1957. "The mill was converted from a four-strand
to a two-strand mill in 1995, and now includes new water boxes with
temperature control, pinch rolls, laying heads, Stelmor® cooling
conveyors, reforming equipment and a coil handling system. The upgrade
also included the addition of two-stand finishing mini-blocks after
the Morgan No-Twist® mills."
Morgan Construction Company,
is a designer and producer of high-quality rolling mill products
and services for the metal industry worldwide.
