Morgan Mill Commissioned at Saarstahl
WORCESTER, Mass., February 29, 2000
Morgan Construction Company has successfully completed
the installation of a mill upgrade at Saarstahl AG, in Neunkirchen,
Germany.
The contract, signed last year, was for a major
upgrade to Saarstahl's existing single-strand SMS-Morgan rod mill
at its Neunkirchen site. The mill, which was originally built in
1962, has had a number of modifications to it since then.
According to Joseph J. Rinaldi, director of Installation
& Services and Project Management, "The upgrade included
the installation of four (4) No-Housing vertical stands, along with
new drives, spindles and spindle carriers.
"As part of the upgrade," he continued,
"the existing horizontal stand bases were modified to increase
the stand traverse capability and to accept future No-Housing stands.
New uploopers were installed before two of the stands to provide
tension-free rolling. The latter will improve the dimensional consistency
of the feed section to the pre-finishing mill stands and, hence,
the finished product," he added.
He also noted, "The reform station modifications
and vertical coil handling system have been designed to provide
full and half weight coils respectively at the present and future
rolling rates of 100 and 140 tons per hour."
Morgan Construction Company,
is a designer and producer of high-quality rolling mill products
and services for the metal industry worldwide.
