North Star Orders Mill Upgrade from Morgan
WORCESTER, Mass. February 22, 2000

Morgan Construction Co., has received a contract from North Star Steel, of Minneapolis, Minn., to upgrade the existing two-strand rod mill at the company's Beaumont, Texas facility.

According to John Foley, General Manager of Domestic Rolling Mill Sales, "The upgrade, which is designed to improve the metallurgical properties of North Star's products, includes a conversion of the two existing Stelmor® chain conveyors to retarded rollerized designs with OPTIFLEX cooling. The modernization also includes an upgrade of the laying heads," he added.

The high-speed mill, which currently produces rod at 90 meters per second, produces 750,000 tons a year. Delivery and installation are scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2000.
