Morgan Completes Sicartsa Mill Upgrade
WORCESTER, Mass., January 12, 2000
Morgan Construction Company has completed the modernization
of Sicartsa's existing four-strand rod mill located at its Lazaro
Cardenas, Mexico, headquarters.
The upgrade, which began in Spring 1999, was completed
on schedule, Project Manager Mark Connolly, said. "Strands
three and four went on line in October, while strands one and two
were commissioned in November," he noted, adding, "The
startup was flawless."
Connolly explained that the upgrade includes the
installation of new water boxes, equalization troughs, No-Twist®
Mill breakout boxes, a rollerized retarded Stelmor® controlled
cooling system, and laying head improvements. It also includes the
addition of a Morgan Basic Temperature Control System (MBTCS).
The Stelmor® system was manufactured and supplied
by Morgan do Brazil in Sao Paulo, SP, the company's Brazilian subsidiary,
with the rest of the order supplied by the company's headquarters
facility in Worcester.
"These modifications will not only improve
mill efficiencies", Connolly said, "but will also enable
Sicartsa to move into higher quality metals markets." The mill,
whose output is 600,000 tonnes per year, produces rod in sizes ranging
from 5.5 mm to 13 mm in diameter. The majority of the company's
product is made for Mexico's construction market.
Morgan Construction Company, is a designer and
producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for
the metal industry worldwide.
