
Zhangjiagang Rod Mill in PRC Off to Strong
Start
WORCESTER, Mass., August 29, 1997
China's newest and most modern mill, Zhangjiagang
Sheen-Faith Steel Corporation Ltd., in Jiangsu Province, is off
to a strong start.
Designed and built by Morgan Construction Company
of Worcester, Mass., USA, the high-speed single strand rod mill
was started up last November. Since then, its output, which has
been as high as 45,000 finished metric tons in a month, is currently
averaging 35,000 tons per month during its first six months of production.
Further, its speed is rated as high as 105 meters per second.
The state-of-the-art 26-stand rod mill rolls products
ranging from 5.5 mm to 20.0 mm, and rebar in 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and
16 mm sizes. Morgan supplied all the design and engineering for
the mill, including a hot charging system, 12 conventional stands,
a 4-stand pre-finishing mill, 10-stand Vee No-Twist(r) mill, pinch
roll, high speed laying head, 10 zone Stelmor( Controlled Cooling
Systems, shears, water boxes, and a reform station with ring distributor.
The high-speed and critical equipment and parts came directly from
Morgan.
