Morgan Installs New Nonferrous Mill For Sun Jin Metals
WORCESTER, Mass., April 4, 1997

Morgan Construction Company has completed the successful test run of a new 21 metric ton per hour nonferrous bar mill for Sun Jin Metals Company Ltd. of Chung Cheong Buk-Do, South Korea.

The new mill, which was installed in conjunction with Southwire Co. of Carrollton, Ga., is a SCR-3000 system with a rolling mill capable of handling a 32.26 square millimeter cast bar section. The mill includes two 12-inch cantilevered stands and eight 8-inch cantilevered stands. Morgan also installed a new entry shear, pickling line, five-station conveyor, pinch roll and coiler.

"During the test run, the Sun Jin mill yielded the target output of 21 metric tons per hour of 8 mm diameter copper rod," according to Morgan's John Buell, Manager, Nonferrous Sales. "In a 10-day test, the mill rolled 1,100 metric tons of copper. Based on these results, we expect the mill will easily meet its long-term production goals."

Morgan and Southwire have worked together for more than 30 years. During that time, Morgan has built more than 50 nonferrous mills for Southwire customers, in addition to completing 25 to 30 upgrades. Southwire handles the sales and marketing, and provides the melting and casting equipment. Morgan produces the rolling mill, which typically also includes the shearing equipment, the pickling and cooling line, the pinch roll, the coiler and the coil handling system.

According to Bill Brunson, Southwire Project Manager, "The SCR 3000 copper rod project for Sun Jin Metals was accomplished on schedule and with in budget through well coordinated efforts between Southwire Company and Morgan Construction Company personnel. The startup of the plant occurred with no significant problems with regards to production rate or quality of rod. Such success demonstrates the high degree of experience and expertise in copper rod production that Southwire and Morgan have gained by working closely together on such projects for over 30 years."

Morgan Construction Company, is a designer and producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for the metal industry worldwide.
