Morgan Construction Company has received
an order to upgrade the existing combination rod and bar mill at
Sanyo Special Steels in Himeji, Japan, through their Japanese licensee,
Sumitomo Heavy Industries and Sumitomo Corporation.
WORCESTER, Mass., June 14, 1996
The contract includes the installation of 2 two-stand
compact sizing mills, capable of producing close tolerance rods
with a guaranteed delivery speed of 100 m/s and a design speed of
120 m/s. The compact sizing mills will increase the speed and utilization
of the rod mill while improving the quality and shape of the rod
produced. The rod tolerance will be better than +/- 0.1 mm throughout
the full range of sizes. Another feature is low temperature rolling,
which produces finer grain steel structure and more compact coils.
In addition, the contract calls for installation
of a new pinch roll, ring distributor, side shifting waterboxes
and a laying head that is specially designed with a rollerized pipe
and other modifications to improve the yield of stainless alloy
grades. The mill produces high-quality stainless steel bar and rod
used in ball bearings, springs and other products for the automotive
industry in the domestic and export markets.
