Morgan Adds Rod TEKISUN to Rod Mill
at China Steel Corporation, Taiwan
WORCESTER, Mass., January 24, 1996
Morgan Construction Company, worldwide supplier
of shape rolling technology, announced it will upgrade the existing
China Steel two strand rod mill in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and install
Rod TEKISUN Reducing/Sizing Mills to both strands of the mill.
China Steel is the largest steel producer in Taiwan
of high-carbon rod for use in such products as wire and tire cord.
The four-stand Rod TEKISUN mills, which will be
installed after the No-Twist mills, will help improve the
quality and shape of the rod produced, while boosting the mill's
utilization, resulting in an increase in production. After this
upgrade, the mill will have the ability to produce 15 percent more
5.5 mm rod, its primary product. The Rod TEKISUN mills will produce
rod with a tolerance of +/- 0.1 mm throughout the full range of
sizes.
The project also includes water boxes, pinch rolls
and laying head modifications. After the current project is completed,
the mill will have the ability to produce 15 percent more 5.5 mm
rod, its primary product. Electrical partner for the project is
General Electric of Salem, Virginia. Equipment is scheduled to be
delivered January 1997, with installation and startup planned for
the last two weeks of March, 1997.
